I tried McDonald’s freshly launched Big Arch as a takeaway. I’d heard it tasted like a Big Mac, just a little tangier? Opinions seemed a bit divided.
After trying it myself, I found it similar to a Big Mac overall, with a heftier beef-and-cheese flavor. What sets it apart is the sauce: imagine Big Mac sauce with an extra mustard-like tang? That was my impression.

I leaned toward liking it, and the crunchy fried onion bits were especially good. The sauce’s acidity did stand out a little, though, so for flavor alone, the Big Mac suited me slightly better. Let’s go through the price, packaging, taste, size and nutrition!
McDonald’s Big Arch Price and Packaging
First, here are the prices.
Burger only: 12,400 won
Meal: 13,900 won
McLunch meal: 13,000 won
Hmm... that price is no small ask. I ordered the meal, and my Big Arch came in a large paper bag with handles!

Maybe this is the VIP treatment for paying that much...
It was much easier to carry home than the usual handleless paper bag. Inside were the Big Arch box and a separate smaller paper bag containing the fries, napkins and ketchup. The cola came separately.

It had been a while since my last McDonald’s visit, so I wondered if all the packaging had changed. I looked it up and learned that the Big Arch comes in a dedicated burger box designed for its size and shape! Apparently, it helps keep the burger from being squashed or losing its form.
Inside the Burger Box
Open the box and you’ll find a circular support around the burger to hold its shape. Underneath is a sheet of paper printed with Big Arch branding; lifting that paper lets you take the burger out.

You can also wrap that paper around the burger to hold it while eating. I found this so much easier to eat than a burger wrapped tightly in paper the usual way.

The filling didn’t spill out all over the place, either. The sauce is fairly thick, like Big Mac sauce... and the box catches anything that does fall, so it wasn’t much trouble. I could just open the box out and eat over it. They seem to have put some thought into the packaging.
Big Arch Taste | Compared with the Big Mac
Overall, it had that familiar Big Mac-style flavor. The thick patties and cheese gave it a more substantial, beefy and cheesy taste.

The difference is the tangy sauce, which tastes like Big Mac sauce plus mustard. Think of a bigger Big Mac... with an extra hit of sharp mustard? That’s roughly how I’d describe it. This seems to be what divides people.

Those patties and cheese are looking seriously hot.
Crunchy Fried Onion Bits
The crispy onions sit near the bottom bun, and they were a treat. Every little fried onion piece added a crunch when I bit into it. They really gave the burger its extra spark.

Fried onion pieces that fell into the burger box...
That crisp, savory onion flavor had me polishing off even the bits that fell out. For me, they were the most memorable ingredient in the Big Arch.
The Sauce | Where Opinions Split
Looking at reviews from Korea and abroad, some people like how the sauce’s tanginess cuts through the richness, while others feel it doesn’t go well with the beef.
I thought it was fine. But compared with the Big Mac, I enjoyed the Big Mac a little more. The acidity stands out in the Big Arch, and the familiar balance of Big Mac sauce seems to suit my palate better. Loving the Big Mac doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll prefer the Big Arch.
Big Arch Size | Compared with a Medium Cola and Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese
The Big Arch looks pretty big as soon as you open the box. Since photos alone may not give a clear sense of scale, I put the medium cola cup that came with it alongside for comparison.

From above, the burger looked a little wider than the circular top of the cola cup. From the side, its height was roughly half the cup’s.

Here’s what goes inside the burger.
Chia and sesame seed bun (4.5 inches)
Two 100% beef patties (113g each)
Three slices of white cheddar cheese
Lettuce
Pickles
Fresh onions
Crispy onions (fried onion pieces)
Signature Big Arch sauce (where the tang comes from)
I thought it looked similar in size to the Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese, so I checked. The Big Arch is heavier, and those calories are pretty intense...

The Big Arch launched in Korea on October 22, 2026 as a limited-time item, but no specific end date has been confirmed. Apparently, they’ll decide whether to make it a permanent menu item after reviewing sales and customer feedback.
Final Thoughts | 3.7 out of 5
My score is 3.7 out of 5. A little better than a 3.5, perhaps? I did enjoy the hefty patties and cheese with the crunch of the crispy onions. Those fried onion bits were particularly savory and had a satisfying texture, making them my favorite part of the Big Arch!
However, the mustard-like tang stood out a touch too much, so for taste alone, the Big Mac suited me a little better. It does help cut through the richness, but liking the Big Mac doesn’t guarantee you’ll find the Big Arch tastier.
I was quite happy with the packaging. Holding the burger in its paper and eating over the box made it manageable despite its size. Still, at 13,900 won for the meal, I don’t think I’d readily order it often. I’ll probably keep reaching for the familiar Big Mac more often.
If you’ve wished the Big Mac were bigger, or you enjoy a substantial beef-and-cheese burger with tangy sauce, the Big Arch could be worth a try!
