During our trip to Sokcho in mid-September, we explored several spots and also visited Sokcho Lighthouse Observatory!

The scenery from the shore is lovely, but looking down over the East Sea and downtown Sokcho from a little higher up offered a whole new perspective!
The wide-open views and cool sea breeze were just what we needed for a change of pace. With restaurants and cafés nearby, I wanted to share it as an outdoor date idea in Sokcho that works well for a stroll before or after a meal.
Sokcho Lighthouse Observatory | A Scenic Walk Up to the Top
At Sokcho Lighthouse Observatory, you can climb the stairs to enjoy views of the sea and the city. It did not feel like the kind of outing that takes the preparation of a mountain hike; it was a pleasant short walk to fit into our trip.
I think the walk up took us around 20–30 minutes. Since the route includes stairs, comfortable shoes would make the visit easier.

We saw a few people making their way up and down, and quite a few international visitors caught our eye that day. It struck me that travelers from abroad, as well as from Korea, are coming to enjoy Sokcho’s seaside scenery.
Dongmyeong Port and Yeonggeumjeong Pavilion are nearby, so they are easy to combine with your visit. There are plenty of snow crab and Korean raw fish restaurants in the area, too!
The East Sea and Downtown Sokcho in One View
What I liked most about Sokcho Lighthouse was being able to see not just the sea, but also the coastline and cityscape together.

It was fun looking down from a distance at the neighborhoods we had been exploring. From here, you really get a sense of how Sokcho meets the sea!
If you are looking for a refreshing stop during your Sokcho trip, I recommend heading up! Cheongchoho Lake and Seoraksan Mountain are visible too, making the panorama feel wonderfully open.
At the Top of Sokcho Lighthouse Observatory | The Health Check Gate
Up at the top, there was also a Health Check Gate where you can try squeezing through narrow gaps of different widths. It is that “Can I fit through there?” attraction you may have seen in Reels or Shorts!

I held my breath and just managed to squeeze through the gap labeled “Slim.”
Most visitors seemed to give it a try. There was a hairy caterpillar when I went through, so it is worth checking the sides for insects or anything else before stepping in!
Looking down at the coastline below felt a little like being overseas—a view with a distinctive charm.

After the Lighthouse, Head to Salon de Haebyeon Café
If you are looking for an ocean-view café after coming down from the lighthouse, try Salon de Haebyeon Café, 10 minutes from Deungdae Beach!
The café occupies three floors, and the second and third floors offer sea views through large windows—a lovely place to rest after a walk. I have shared the atmosphere and our drinks in the post below!
