Spoonable cakes have been catching my eye lately. After looking around for places to try them, I visited Buttered Bake Shop, a dessert spot in Nakseongdae.
We stopped by late in the evening, so instead of eating there, we ordered a banana pudding, a blueberry dessert and two egg tarts to go! While waiting for our order, I looked around inside and loved the charming, welcoming atmosphere.
Our self-paid takeaway review: banana pudding, Yogeu Blueberry and egg tarts
There was an appealing selection of puddings, spoonable cakes, regular cakes, egg tarts and cookies. Choosing was part of the fun! We picked one banana pudding, one Yogeu Blueberry and two egg tarts!!
The staff explained the difference between their puddings and spoonable cakes, but I cannot quite remember the details... Best to ask them for an accurate explanation! (I think it was something along the lines of pudding versus cake...?)
Egg tarts with crisp pastry and a soft center
We ate the egg tarts on our way home. They had a crisp exterior and a moist, tender filling, with a rich, buttery flavor that made them irresistible. After that first crunchy bite, the soft center seemed to melt in my mouth.
We had come for spoonable cakes and added these along the way, but the egg tarts were a great choice too.
Just look at that filling... so good!
Banana pudding that keeps you reaching for another spoonful
I tried the banana pudding once we got home, and wow... it tasted incredible. On top was a topping that reminded me of Lotus cookie crumbs. Its sweetness paired beautifully with the banana.
The banana had a mellow, gently sweet flavor, and the extra sweetness from the cookie topping kept me going back for more. The pudding itself was wonderfully smooth too...
Yogeu Blueberry with a refreshing tang
The Yogeu Blueberry we brought home was delicious as well. The blueberry tang balanced the other flavors nicely, giving it a different appeal from the banana pudding. Picking one sweet dessert and one refreshing option worked well together.
If you are looking for a refreshing spoonable cake, I would recommend Yogeu Blueberry!!!

There was plenty to choose from, including coffee, lattes, fruit sodas, shakes and tea. An Americano was 4,500 won, and non-coffee options included matcha and sweet potato lattes.

The atmosphere at Buttered Bake Shop in Nakseongdae
Buttered Bake Shop matched the neighborhood feel I associate with Nakseongdae, with a quaint, cute and cozy atmosphere. Everything was neatly maintained, which put me in a good mood as soon as I walked in.
The seating included four-person tables, sofa seats and two-person window seats. I did not count precisely, but there seemed to be about ten seats in total.
Saying hello to the axolotls while waiting for our takeaway
Inside the shop, there were also axolotls and lizards. Each had its own enclosure, and I found them much less intimidating than expected—just adorable. I even said hello to the axolotls before our desserts were ready, haha.
There seemed to be two axolotls. I do not know whether they were male or female, but they looked so endearing resting quietly. It appeared that the shop kept other lizards too!
There were baskets for bags and belongings as well, so even if you arrive carrying a few things, storing them should be convenient.
Opening hours and amenities
We visited late in the evening and only ordered takeaway. At the time, we were told that takeaway orders were available until 8:30 PM on Saturdays. If you plan to stop by late, it would be best to check with the shop beforehand.
The restroom was a unisex restroom inside the shop. No need to head outside, which seemed handy.
I did not see a separate smoking area or parking lot during our visit, and the online listing stated that parking was not available.

Banana pudding if you crave something sweet and smooth, or a blueberry dessert if you prefer a refreshing flavor would be my recommendations. The egg tarts had crunchy pastry, a delicate center and a rich flavor, making them a welcome addition to our takeaway order.
We only bought takeaway this time, but the inviting interior and adorable axolotls left an impression. If you are looking for a café to enjoy desserts or somewhere to grab treats to go in Nakseongdae, I recommend Buttered Bake Shop!!
